Equipment safety inspections for the fire service

We inspect your gym the way you inspect your ladders.

RescueFit is a vendor-independent equipment safety inspection service for fire departments, municipal facilities, and small fitness spaces. We document what’s there, flag what needs attention, and leave you a clear record — without telling you how to run your gym.

The gap

A gym nobody is checking

Most departments have a fitness room. Very few have a consistent way to document equipment condition or safety checks — the way they already do for ladders, SCBA, and PPE.

Firehouse equipment is heavily used, often donated, mixed-brand, and aging. Small issues — loose hardware, worn cables, an unstable bench — go unnoticed until they become a preventable injury, a workers’ comp claim, and a staffing gap.

Visual & functionalA non-invasive inspection of every piece of equipment, based on manufacturer safety guidance.
Clear documentationA professional report your administration and risk manager can rely on.
No sales agendaWe don’t sell equipment, so our findings point you to what matters — nothing more.
What we do

Three ways to work with us

Start with an inspection. Add planning support or an ongoing program when it fits.

Core service
01 — Inspect

Fitness Facility Risk Assessment

A structured, third-party inspection of your equipment. We inventory it, perform visual and functional safety checks, categorize every item, and deliver a clear report with photo documentation.

For: any department or facility with a gym
02 — Plan

Space Planning & Safety Review

Building a new fitness room or upgrading an existing one? We review layout, spacing, and equipment selection, and help with sourcing, budgeting, and grant justification.

For: new builds & upgrades
03 — Sustain

Annual Safety Program

An ongoing program modeled on how you manage PPE and SCBA: an inspection routine, checklists for your own use between visits, point-person training, and a yearly third-party review.

For: departments wanting recurring oversight
How it works

Every item gets a tag

Like an inspection sticker on a ladder or extinguisher, each piece of equipment is assigned one clear, advisory action category. No jargon, no guesswork — just what to do next. Final decisions always stay with you.

No Action Required

No observable safety concern identified at the time of inspection.

Monitor

Minor wear that doesn’t currently affect safe operation. Review periodically.

Service Recommended

Conditions that may affect safe operation. Address through maintenance or repair.

Remove from Service

Possible immediate concern. Continued use not recommended until corrected.

Who we are

Built by the fire service,
for the fire service

RescueFit was founded by Evan Giesing, a career firefighter and company officer, together with a co-founder who is a retired career firefighter. We bring a practical, safety-focused perspective to the spaces where first responders train — grounded in real on-duty use, not a commercial-gym sales model.

  • Career firefighter & company officer, Connecticut
  • IAFF Peer Fitness Trainer
  • Background in facility operations & equipment maintenance
  • Certified Honda Small Engine Technician
  • Former Certified Pool & Spa Operator
  • Hands-on experience maintaining fitness & common-area equipment
Why we started this

The idea for RescueFit came after watching a fellow firefighter sustain a serious, life-altering injury when a failing incline bench abruptly collapsed from a hardware separation. It exposed a gap many organizations share: fitness spaces full of well-intentioned equipment, but no consistent, safety-focused oversight. RescueFit exists to help close that gap — not through fault-finding or enforcement, but through practical, observational reviews that support safer training and informed decisions.

Straight with you

We’re a new company —
and we think that’s a strength

RescueFit is a founder-run startup. We’d rather tell you that plainly than dress it up. Here’s what it means for you.

You deal with us

The person who inspects your equipment is the person who answers your call. No call center, no handoffs.

Mission, not volume

This started because of a real injury. We take a small number of clients and do the work carefully.

Honest scope

We’re clear about what an inspection is and isn’t. We won’t oversell what we can observe.

Setting expectations

What an assessment is — and isn’t

What it is

  • A non-invasive, visual and functional safety inspection
  • A complete equipment inventory with action-based findings
  • Documentation supporting due diligence and risk management
  • Plain-language guidance that line staff and officers can act on

What it isn’t

  • A code-compliance inspection, certification, or audit
  • A requirement to replace any equipment
  • A maintenance or repair service
  • A vendor sales program
